Chelsea Then & Now: A Walking Tour & Cocktail Evening: Egerton Salon Series
As part of The Egerton House Hotel’s Salon Series, our second event invites you to step out into Chelsea with a lifelong local as your guide, uncovering the stories, characters and quiet evolutions that have shaped one of London’s most storied neighbourhoods. This intimate experience blends personal perspective with cultural history, offering a rare glimpse into Chelsea beyond the surface.
Your guide, Emma Matthews, is a Blue Badge Tourist Guide and lifelong Chelsea resident with a deep passion for art, history and the stories that cities leave behind. Having studied art history at Birkbeck College and co-founded a bespoke art tours business, she brings both an artist’s eye and a historian’s depth to her work. Before following her passion for the arts, Emma read history and law at Cambridge and practised as a barrister at the Inner Temple. She knows Chelsea not just as a guide, but as someone who has watched it evolve across a lifetime.
Your evening begins at The Egerton House Hotel, where you will be welcomed with a brief introduction before setting off on foot through the surrounding streets. Along the way, discover the contrasts that define Chelsea, from its artistic heritage to its modern identity, brought to life through lived experience and expert insight.
As the walk draws to a close, return to the hotel where the conversation continues over a Chelsea-inspired cocktail and a selection of canapés. An elegant summer evening of place, perspective and connection, thoughtfully curated as part of the Salon Series.
