At The Egerton House Hotel, our Doggy Afternoon Tea is the perfect treat for four-legged friends. A guest favourite, the tea is served in our Dining Room and features a pooch-pleasing selection of treats, such as chicken and beef meatloaf, homemade dog biscuits and dog ice cream.

You can now recreate our homemade dog biscuits at home with the below recipe. An easy to bake treat, we use natural ingredients that can be found in your kitchen cupboards.

We would love to see your dog biscuits, share your images with us by tagging @Egerton_House on Instagram.

Ingredients:

  • 200g buckwheat flour

  • 50g porridge oats

  • 1 tsp blackstrap molasses

  • 100g smooth peanut butter

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Put the flour and oats into a bowl.
  3. Measure the blackstrap molasses out into a small bowl, pour 100 ml boiling water over, and stir until dissolved.
  4. Add in the peanut butter and stir.
  5. Add to the rest of the ingredients in the bowl and mix together to form a nice soft dough. (If it is a little dry, then add a few tablespoons of water.)
  6. Lightly flour a clean work surface and turn out the dough onto it.
  7. Taking small pieces of the dough, roll them into balls – about half the size of a golf ball.
  8. Put them on a baking sheet and press down gently on each ball with your thumb. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.

Leave the biscuits to cool (they should be quite hard), then store them in a sealed container.

They should keep for at least a week and are a tasty reward for good behaviour.
